Why you should choose a CFP®
In your search for a competent financial planning professional, you need to be able to recognize who you can trust.
Financial Planning is a process that determines how you can best meet your life goals through the proper management of your financial affairs.
Financial planning is not regulated in most Canadian provinces. This means that anyone can call themselves a “financial planner”. However, not everyone who refers to themselves as a planner is indeed qualified; many so-called financial planners are licensed to sell products but have no financial planning training or expertise.
Key to effective financial planning is the ability to take into account all relevant aspects of your financial situation and to identify and analyze the complex interrelationships among important yet often conflicting objectives. It is this unique integration of knowledge and skills across a broad range of topics that distinguishes qualified professional financial planning from other related financial advice.
The Certified Financial Planner® (CFP®) designation identifies individuals who are dedicated to the highest level of professionalism in providing financial planning and advice. The CFP® credential assures that your financial planner adheres to internationally recognized professional standards of competence and ethical practice. In Canada, these standards are regulated by The Financial Planners Standards Council (FPSC).
The CFP® designation ensures that the planner has successfully completed the rigorous Education and Examination requirements. The planner must also have completed a minimum of two years of industry experience and demonstrate a strict Code of Ethics prior to attaining the designation.
A Code of Ethics is the cornerstone of all recognized professional designations. Doctors, lawyers, accountants and dentists, for instance, must all adhere to the Code of Ethics of their respective professions. Practitioner’s who stray from the Code risks losing their license to practice.
In the world of financial services, there are many designations. However, the CFP® designation alone demands strict adherence to a professional Code of Ethics specific to financial planning. All CFP® professionals subscribe to the same Code of Ethics based on seven guiding principles: Integrity, Objectivity, Competence, Fairness, Confidentiality, Professionalism and Diligence.
These principles highlight the individual CFP® professional’s responsibilities to the public, their colleagues, employers, the profession in general and, first and foremost, to their clients.
Deborah Taylor, CFP® takes a holistic approach to her clients’ financial needs. She considers each client’s financial goals, stage of life, personal circumstances and risks tolerance before making any recommendations. In addition to the prestigious CFP designation, the ability to provide Investments, Insurance, Severance & Pension options enable her to provide clients with a comprehensive financial plan.
